No...You Will Never Use That in the Real World, But That's Not the Point!
spacing
It is that time of year when the graduation caps fly and parents sit in crowded auditoriums waiting to hear their graduate’s name called. The cliché phrase often uttered by students and graduates is, “I will never use that in the real world!” It is true that most vocations will never require anyone to “complete the square” or use geometrical proofs from high school. Even as an engineer, I may never have to compute a triple integral by hand again. This does not mean that learning those things was unnecessary, because it led to the development of more important skills. The critical thinking and complex reasoning skills that I developed because of those proofs and integrals are tools that I use every day.

Find out in this month's technical toolbox why you DO use all that education, just maybe not in ways you thought!

Summer Is A Great Time to Learn

Both of my parents were educators. Needless to say, learning was a valued activity growing up. Even during summers, my parents worked hard to balance creative and unfocused time with reading and learning time. Looking back, they did a good job of letting me goof around enough during summers while also driving me to be productive and actively learning.

Survey Results

Thank you to those who participated in our survey. The results are in!

80% of survey respondents are working in a facility that strives to comply with PSM principles; while about 70% are implementing elements of CCPS Risk Based Process Safety Model. Although it's great that so many of you are in compliance, there's still some room for improvement.  Let us help you!

The most overlooked PSM need is inconsistency in PSI.
Respondents also let us know that PHAs, MoC processes, and Relief Valve Sizing were primary items that needed outside support. Our process engineers are fully qualified and ready to assist you with these and any other PSM needs you may have. Contact us today!

Our PSM overview training classes and the PHA training classes we held in May were a success!  We hope all those attended came away with a new piece of process safety knowledge.

Although we were scheduled to have Relief System and Design training June 11th-14th, we have rescheduled that class to later this fall. We hope you can join us.

Cognascents also provides private training courses to companies looking to run multiple personnel through the course at once. The agenda for private courses can be tailored to meet company needs and expectations. Contact us at 281-717-8590 to schedule your training needs.

Our website revamp is almost complete!

We hope to launch our new look by the end of summer. Although our core competencies haven't changed, we are freshening up our look and jumping into a bit of social media.

Watch for our more frequent LinkedIn articles and technical and leadership blogs. If there are any topics you would be interested in hearing our thoughts and opinions on, please let us know.

Once the new website is up and ready, we welcome any feedback you may have about making the new website more user friendly and easier to navigate. We are here to serve you!
