Process hazard analyses are structured, team-based exercises focused on hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk management. The deliverables of PHAs help drive design and procedural improvements to avoid potentially catastrophic consequences to personnel, the environment, and commercial interests. Traditional PHA approaches include checklist, what-if, what-if/checklist, hazard identification (HAZID), hazard and operability (HAZOP) and layers of protection analysis (LOPA).
Process Hazard Analysis Training
Process Hazard Analysis with Focus on HAZOP Training
This two-day process hazard analysis training will provide lessons and activities aimed to enable individuals to be active participants in their next HAZOP. Topics include the following:
- Preparing for a HAZOP
- Defining nodes
- Developing hazard scenarios using deviations and cause-consequence pairings
- Identifying safeguards and IPLs
- Performing risk-ranking
- Crafting effective recommendations
- Understanding meeting and team dynamics regarding PHAs
Successful PHAs rely heavily on team communication. In addition to HAZOP training, this course provides tools to improving team communication and improve team productivity.
Process Hazard Analysis with Focus on LOPA Training
This one-day course is a great follow-up to our HAZOP training course. Topics include the following:
- Preparing for a LOPA
- Developing LOPAs using HAZOP hazard scenarios
- Identifying and applying enabling conditions
- Recognizing and applying IPLs
- Identifying and applying conditional modifiers
- Calculating LOPA likelihood and defining required risk reduction factor
